A cloud-based future: How Altano Group streamlined care with Provet Cloud

"With Provet Cloud, we’ve raised our communication standards and brought three very different clinics into better alignment."

As the largest group of equine veterinarians in Denmark, Altano Group Denmark carries a heavy responsibility – to provide exceptional care across a network of specialized clinics, while also aligning with modern veterinary standards and digital demands. In early 2025, part of that group took a major step forward by migrating three of its clinics (in the Højgård Hestehospital Group) from their aging Vetvision system to Provet Cloud.

“It was the end of the life of that system,” says Michael Munk, CEO of Altano Group Denmark and Højgård Hestehospital. “Vetvision was old, heavy, and expensive to run on a server. It made no sense to keep investing in it. Cloud software is the way forward.”

One network. Three clinics.
One system.

Munk oversees three equine clinics – in Jutland, Funen, and Zealand – each with its own specialties, workflows, and pricing structures. The Funen location houses the largest hospital unit, complete with surgery, CT, and MRI capabilities. Transitioning such a diverse and complex operation to a new platform required not only technical migration but also cultural alignment.

“It’s a huge step, mentally, to come from such an old system,” Munk reflects. “But it actually was quite easy.”

The key, he says, was choosing a system that could offer both standardization and flexibility.

“Provet Cloud gave us the opportunity to have a base system that works on the road, and also connects to third-party tools like pharmacy systems and stock control via API. That openness was important.”

A smooth migration, on schedule

Munk credits the success of the migration to a structured and collaborative implementation process led by Provet Cloud’s veterinary-experienced team.

“We used Provet Cloud as a project manager to run the process for us,” he explains. “We didn’t have to control it ourselves. We had a fine schedule to work from, and all our admin, finance, and vet teams had communication with the implementation team. It went so smoothly. I never doubted that we would meet the deadline to launch.”

Still, standardizing processes across three very different clinics wasn’t without challenges. Updating and migrating hundreds of client letters and surgical instructions took more time than expected.

“That was actually the hardest part,” Munk says. “Each clinic had different ways of doing things. But now they are more aligned than before, and we’ve raised our communication standards.”

Central control with local flexibility

With Provet Cloud in place, Altano Denmark has achieved something rare: centralized control that still empowers individual clinics to work the way they want.

“The biggest difference is in our central department where we create item lists,” Munk says. “One big list for an examination – some clinics use a small part, others use more. But they’re all working with the same codes. That allows us to pull out statistics via the API, even though each clinic feels like it’s deciding on its own.”

This unified data structure opens new doors – not just for practice management, but for insights on equine health.

“We’re already asking questions like: Is there a vet doing a lot of a particular treatment? Is there a region with more colic cases? Or a breed with higher allergy risk?” says Munk. “That’s the power of big data. And Provet Cloud allows us to leverage that information for broad insights.”

Better communication, smarter workflows

On the practice level, the shift to Provet Cloud is delivering immediate benefits.

“One of the biggest changes is client communication,” Munk says. “We can now send out payment links in the instruction letters, and appointment reminders. It’s a better way to stay connected with our clients.”

Clinical documentation has improved, too.

“In operations, the anesthesia team can now enter all their data directly into the system. And clinic notes are more structured.”

Setting the pace for global change

With the migration in Denmark now complete, the rest of the Altano Group – spanning more than a dozen countries across Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand – is watching closely.

“When you change your software right before spring season, everyone notices,” Munk says. “How did the implementation go? Are we losing anything in production? Do we have the right prices in place? These are questions being asked not just in Denmark, but across the group.”

Altano’s long-term strategy is to consolidate its software stack, reduce complexity, and build a slim IT organization with strong security. Provet Cloud plays a central role in that vision.

“If we’re able to combine different clinics, identities, and accounts under one overhead system – while still allowing each to operate as they need – then we are extremely far ahead of other groups and providers,” Munk says.

The road ahead: Cloud-based excellence

As Altano Denmark looks to the future, Munk sees Provet Cloud as more than just a practice management tool. It’s a platform for research, insights, and continuous improvement.

“To be the best for animal welfare, we need to work with data,” he says. “It’s not only about invoicing or tax reporting. It’s about being transparent with the kind of work we’re doing every day. That’s what we’re aiming for. And I think we are well on the way with a system like Provet Cloud.”
